In a Project Management, the Strategy Principle determines what is going to be done and when, and the Management Principle establishes how it is going to be done and by whom.

All project managers are familiar with at least one CPM scheduling software application, such as Microsoft Project, Primavera, Scitor Project Scheduler, AEC FastTrack, CA-SuperProject, or Kidasa Milestones. Many scheduling applications are tailored to specific industries or project types, but all use CPM precedence methodology.

The key to a successful Project Management is in the planning: 1. being clear on the objectives, deciding how to work together as a team, 2. thinking through how to approach the scope, 3. setting up a schedule and budget, 4. understanding clearly what will make the deliverable acceptable to the client of the project.

Project managers can be found in all industries. Their numbers have grown rapidly as industry and commerce has realised that much of what it does is Project Management work.

When you think of a business manager, typically, you'll think of someone who oversees a specific functional business areafor instance, a sales team manager, or the manager of the accounting department. These folks tend to manage ongoing or frequently repeated processes such as ensuring that the sales team meets its monthly quota of cold calls to prospective clients, in the case of the sales manager.

Are you running a business from home? Did you know that you may need planning permission? Here are some questions that you need to ask yourself:

Is your house mainly used as a place to live or is its primary purpose as a business premises?

Your neighbours might start objecting if you turn a quiet suburb into a busy area with a lot of people coming and going. On the other hand if you receive very few visitors then they are unlikely to object.

A typical example of where you definitely need to check with the local authorities first, is if you run a child minding business from home. They will need to inspect your property and may ask you to make some improvements so that it is deemed to be safe for the children.

Another example of a business that might be deemed to cause a nuisance to the neighbours is if your work involves a lot of noise or smells. A joiner who bangs away with his hammer and tools could easily upset the people who live next door.

Working from home has many advantages including lower start up costs and money / time saved travelling to and from work. By checking with your local authority first and taking out adequate home business insurance you can avoid problems later.
